EXPRESSION OF CONCERN
The March 20, 2005, article by Sudbø et al, entitled "Risk Markers of Oral Cancer in Clinically Normal Mucosa As an Aid in Smoking Cessation Counseling" (J Clin Oncol 23:1927-1933, 2005) has come under scrutiny. The corresponding author’s institution, The Norwegian Radium Hospital, is reviewing the data and the Editorial office is awaiting the results of the investigation. Additionally, the Editorial office also received information that the following authors did not review the manuscript before publication and should not have been listed as authors of this article: Roy Samuelsson, Björn Risberg, Stig Heistein, Christian Nyhus, Margaretha Samuelsson, Ruth Puntervold, Eva Sigstad, Ben Davidson, and Åsmund Berner. The Journal Of Oncology and Daniel G. Haller, MD, Editor in Chief, citing the recommendation by the Investigation Commision report commissioned by Radiumhospitalet Medical Center and the University of Oslo, Norway, about Jon Sudbø, MD, formally retracts the 2005 publication of "Risk Markers of Oral Cancer in Clinically Normal Mucosa As an Aid in Smoking Cessation Counseling" (Jon Sudbø et al, J Clin Oncol 23:1927-1933, 2005). Initially, an Expression of Concern was published concerning this article. Upon receiving the recommendation from the Investigation Commission to retract the article, the Journal is now retracting this publication
