Elderly Patients Benefit From Second-Line Cytotoxic Chemotherapy: A Subset Analysis of a Randomized Phase III Trial of Pemetrexed Compared With Docetaxel in Patients With Previously Treated Advanced Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer
J Clin Oncol Weiss et al. 24: 4405

Publisher's Note

The September 20, 2006 article by Weiss et al entitled, "Elderly Patients Benefit From Second-Line Cytotoxic Chemotherapy: A Subset Analysis of a Randomized Phase III Trial of Pemetrexed Compared With Docetaxel in Patients With Previously Treated Advanced Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer" (J Clin Oncol 24:4405-4411, 2006) was published online September 20, 2006 with an error. Data related to 24-month survival should not have been reported.

In Table 2, data related to the percentage of patients surviving at 24 months should be omitted.

In the Results section, under "Efficacy," the last three sentences of the first paragraph were given as:

"There were no differences in 12- and 24-month survival in the elderly between the treatment types. The percentage of elderly patients surviving to 12 and 24 months was 20.4% and 6.1% in the pemetrexed group and 23.1% and 10.6% in the docetaxel group, respectively. The percentage of younger patients surviving to 12 and 24 months was 30.8% and 10.6% in the pemetrexed group and 30.8% and 0% in the docetaxel group, respectively. However, there was a significant absolute difference of 10.6% in 24- month survival in the younger group favoring pemetrexed (95% CI, 3.1 to 18.0; P=.0054)."

While it should have read:

"There were no differences in 12-month survival in the elderly between the treatment types. The percentage of elderly patients surviving to 12 months was 20.4% in the pemetrexed group and 23.1% in the docetaxel group. The percentage of younger patients surviving to 12 months was 30.8% in the pemetrexed group and 30.8% in the docetaxel group."

In the Discussion section, the fifth sentence of the second paragraph read, "There was a significant absolute difference in 24-month survival favoring pemetrexed in younger patients." This sentence should be omitted.

These corrections have been made as of November 2, 2006.
