Docetaxel Plus Cyclophosphamide in Adjuvant Breast CancerJewish General Hospital, Montreal, Quebec, Canada To the Editor: The recently described phase III trial comparing doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide with docetaxel plus cyclophosphamide as adjuvant therapy for operable breast cancer is a very informative trial that identifies docetaxel plus cyclophosphamide (TC) as superior to doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide (AC) for disease-free survival.1 The results of this trial suggest that TC is preferable to AC especially in patients who have cardiac dysfunction. In addition, it may well be that TC is preferable in all high risk patients in these categories. What is the effect of HER-2 status on your results? In particular, it would be very helpful to identify the large subgroup of patients which are HER-2 negative and estrogen receptor–and/or progesterone receptor–positive. This group represents the majority of patients and it would be informative to know whether or not the TC combination is also superior in that group B.
