ERRATUM

The March 20, 2009, special article by Pintilie et al, entitled "Heterogeneity and Power in Clinical Biomarker Studies" (J Clin Oncol 27:1517–1521, 2009), contained errors.

In the section "Heterogeneity Affects the Power of the Study," the fourth to last sentence cited reference no. 1, whereas it should have been formula 1, as follows:

"When the variance within a patient is zero, the formula (1) is the same as formula (A5) (Appendix)."

In the section "Example: Interstitial Fluid Pressure and Outcome," the first sentence of the third paragraph cited reference no. 11, whereas it should have been reference no. 14.

In the Appendix, the formulas were labeled as 1-5, whereas they should have been labeled A1-A5.

In the Appendix, the sentence immediately preceding formula (A5) cited reference no. 14, whereas it should have been reference no. 11.

In the Appendix, formula A5, the lower-case Greek symbol for phi ({varphi}) was used in the last sentence, whereas the lower-case Greek symbol for sigma ({sigma}) should have been used instead, as follows:

"The effect size, HR represents the fold increase of the hazard for each unit increase in the explanatory variable (biomarker) and {sigma} is the standard deviation of the explanatory variable (biomarker)."

The online version has been corrected in departure from the print.
